What is Botulinum Toxin?

Facial expression is the expression of the soul, but in some cases this takes over, resulting in deep, unsightly wrinkles on the face, giving the face an angry or sad look.

Botulinum toxin is today the treatment par excellence for expression lines.

Botulinum toxin type A is a tremulous neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum.

This toxin, injected into the muscle in low concentrations, has the ability to interact with the release of acetylcholine (a substance essential for the transmission of impulses to the muscle) causing transient flaccid paralysis.

This characteristic makes it particularly useful in blocking those mimic muscles that cause the appearance of unsightly expression lines such as crow's feet, frowns, forehead wrinkles, etc.

The most frequently treated areas are

  • frontal wrinkles
  • inter-brow wrinkles
  • wrinkles and furrows between the eyebrows
  • wrinkles around the eyes
  • expression wrinkles

The treatment takes only a few minutes and is carried out in the doctor's office.

The result of the treatment is appreciable a few days after infiltration and achieves its maximum effectiveness after a week with a pleasant soothing effect on the treated area.

The cost of the treatment is variable depending on the areas to be treated and the amount of drug used.

The duration of the treatment is about 4-5 months after which there will be a slow resumption of the appearance of muscle activity and consequently the reappearance of wrinkles. Repeating the treatment twice a year is strongly recommended in order not to lose the results obtained.
