Cosmetic surgery: the new trends

Cosmetic surgery: the new trends

Cosmetic surgery, like all medicine, is always evolving. Tastes change, but so do techniques, treatments and instruments. There is an increasing tendency, even when resorting to aesthetic medicine or surgery, to want to (rightly) maintain the natural appearance of the body and face.

The watchword for 2017 is naturalness. Patients are increasingly demanding minimally invasive treatments that give a more relaxed and less tired look, and new techniques, combined with the hand of a good surgeon, make it possible to achieve excellent results.

Thus, among the current trends, there is a surge in operations that act on fat taken from so-called 'critical points' to then reshape other parts of the body. A trend that originated in America but has also arrived here, that of lipofilling. The surgeon harvests fat from the abdomen, thighs, buttocks to inject it into other areas and rejuvenate or lift other parts of the body such as the face or breasts. Since the material injected is the patient's own fat, the results are generally safer and longer lasting than techniques using other types of fillers.

Ifillers represent one of the most popular treatments of the moment. Painless, quick and with immediate and natural results, fillers such as botulinum toxin andhyaluronic acid to reshape tissues are very much in demand. Mini-invasive and widely used for facial treatments, to smooth out wrinkles or give volume to the lips, the new fillers are formulated to be more long-lasting, natural and less painful.

Even the classic facelift has embraced the new trends of minimal invasiveness and naturalness of the result with the so-called 'non-surgical facelift', i.e. using traction threads. This can be called a real catchphrase, given the high demand. However, it must be specified that it is only suitable for certain skin types; for very mature skin, the only way to achieve good results is with a classic facelift.

n the case of breasts, too, the watchword is naturalness. Instead of the 'ball' prostheses of the past, a more natural lipofilling or prostheses with ergonomic gels that rearrange themselves according to the position of the body are preferred.

the use of cosmetic surgery of the intimate parts has exploded in recent years. Many taboos concerning these areas of the body have been broken down and it is now possible to talk about them and operate without unnecessary modesty.

Lastly, and this is a trend that has been going on for some time now, cosmetic surgery is no longer exclusively a woman's prerogative, there are also many men who resort to it, in order to feel better about themselves and others, a trend that is in any case on the increase.
