Lipofilling, everything you need to know

Of the many cosmetic surgery procedures, lipofilling is one of the most popular. let us see what it is and in which cases it is effective.

Basically, lipofilling is a cosmetic surgery procedure aimed at reshaping parts of the body using one's own adipose tissue so as not to infiltrate foreign substances. Fat is extracted and reintroduced into the body to restore volume to specific areas. This reduces the possibility of rejection that can occur when using other substances.

The procedure can be performed under local anaesthesia, on an outpatient basis or under sedation depending on the amount of fat to be injected and the site. The fat is taken through a series of cannulas with a diameter of 3 and 5 mm from the abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, as appropriate. Once taken, it is decanted or centrifuged for a few minutes and then injected into the areas where volume increase is desired. After the procedure, the micro-incisions are sutured and a compression dressing or sheath is applied to the area where liposuction was performed.

The areas that can be treated with lipofilling are:

  • Face: the procedure is usually performed to fill nasogenous grooves, subpalpebral grooves, increase the volume of cheekbones, cheeks, lips or depressed scars. This is a surgical technique that, thanks to the grafting of fat and stem cells taken from other areas of the body, makes it possible to redesign, restore volumes and contours, rejuvenate, give greater definition to the face and correct the atrophy that accompanies ageing.
  • Breast: the procedure can be performed for reconstructive reasons, to increase breast volume, or even to treat asymmetries. This technique is indicated for many aspects as it is free of scarring and the result obtained is natural.
  • Hands: the procedure involves injecting small volumes of fat into the interdigital grooves, which become fleshy over the years, revealing the advance of age.
  • Buttocks: the operation involves the injection of fat into the upper part of the buttocks, which usually empties over the years and following diets and pregnancies. It is almost always combined with liposuction of the hips and buttocks in order to obtain a complete redistribution of volumes.
  • Legs: The operation allows the silhouette of the leg to be improved.

Lipofilling is also an excellent choice compared to other, usually more invasive treatments and operations. Its strengths compared to other techniques are as follows:

  • It eliminates wrinkles and rejuvenates the skin
  • The results are very natural
  • Masks scars
  • Allows reconstruction of body areas affected by malformations
  • it is useful in cases of breast reconstruction
  • No risk of rejection or allergies
