Men and cosmetic surgery

Men and cosmetic surgery

When talking about cosmetic surgery, one often spontaneously thinks of women, yet men also resort to it very often. It is mainly men over 40 who want to combat the effects of time and maintain a leaner, more slender physique. Indeed, men are becoming increasingly aware of the value of cosmetic surgery as a means of improving their appearance.

Among the most popular procedures is certainly gynaecomastia, or male breast reduction. Yes, because as we age, it becomes progressively more difficult to maintain a lean physique while continuing to eat a healthy diet and exercise. Many men tend to develop chest fat anyway, which looks similar to female breasts, which can cause psychological discomfort, be a source of embarrassment in interpersonal relationships and cause deep insecurities. The methods adopted for male breasts differ from those for women in that they are minimally aggressive. Generally, liposuction of excess adipose tissue is performed and, if glandular tissue is present, this is removed through a small incision.

Another source of discomfort for the male universe are undoubtedly the famous 'love handles'. The fat concentrated on the hips is mainly caused by a poor diet and excessive alcohol intake, but sometimes it is simply a matter of genetics. Liposuction is then performed to remove the excess fat, to be combined, if necessary, with anabdominoplasty to remove the remaining skin. However, liposuction is also used on the abdomen, buttocks, thighs, knees, upper limbs, chin and neck.

Another worry of men over 40 is theageing of the face, consisting of wrinkles and furrows, which for men are impossible to hide with cosmetics. In these cases we intervene with Botox and fillers, both non-invasive but not permanent treatments, or the facelift, an actual surgical procedure, but one that has the advantage of giving permanent results. A face lift removes wrinkles and excess fat, repositioning facial muscles and smoothing the skin of the face and neck. Blepharoplasty, on the other hand, corrects drooping upper eyelids, fat bags and dark circles that make the eyes look tired, ageing the physiognomy of the face.

Then there are types of surgery not related to ageing but to birth defects or post-traumatic conditions such asotoplasty and rhinoplasty. In the first case we speak of a surgical procedure to reposition and reshape prominent ears (so-called 'floppy' ears) and correct them. In the second case, rhinoplasty makes it possible to change the shape and size of the nose, improving the harmony of the face without disrupting its physiognomy. With this type of surgery, it is also possible to correct post-traumatic or birth defects and respiratory problems.

In short, even men are no longer immune to the seductions of medicine and cosmetic surgery. They want to feel good and look good, and instead of passing over it, as they might once have done, they have realised that there is absolutely nothing wrong with having surgery to feel good about oneself and experience one's body with the utmost serenity.
